The Honda Pilot has been in production for 15 years. If it were a person, it could legally get a job and start driving next year. Yep, it’s been around while. But Honda’s mid-size SUV continually earns its keep with the right blend of form, function and value. For 2018, it carries on as one of the most popular family SUVs on the road.
What’s new for 2018?
For 2018 the Honda Pilot continues unchanged from the previous model year. After all, why mess with a good thing?
Over the years, the Honda Pilot has developed a keen sense of style. The latest model is no exception with sleek body lines and an athletic stance. Both the headlights and the taillights have LED highlights for added zing.
And with the Pilot, beauty isn’t just skin deep. Up to 8 passengers will enjoy the spacious cabin with its one-touch folding seats and captain’s chairs. Cargo space is generous too, providing 109 cu-ft of room with the rear seats folded. Three-zone climate control keeps all interior occupants happy – including Fido riding in the cargo area.
For 2018, five trim levels are offered on the Pilot: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring and the Elite.
At the end of a long workday, it feels good to punch the throttle as you enter the highway. Although it’s no race car, the Honda Pilot will indulge your power lust with an advanced 3.5L V6. All that get-up-and-go comes from the engine’s 280 hp and 262 lb-ft. Also, half of the engine’s cylinders turn off during cruise conditions to save fuel. As for transmission choices, the Pilot is offered with either a 6-speed automatic, or a highly advanced 9-speed automatic.
All-wheel drive is usually an option in the SUV class. But on the Honda Pilot, it comes standard. So, no matter where you go, you can boldly face mother nature with superior traction and handling.
Technology for the digital age
Cassette players and 8-tracks may have their charm, but when it comes to your daily driver, you want the latest technology. And from bumper-to-bumper, the Honda Pilot has it. Up front you’ll find a touch-screen infotainment system, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Back row passengers will enjoy the 9-inch DVD entertainment system. And to ensure everyone stays connected, the Pilot has USB ports, 12-volt outlets, a 115-volt outlet and – get this – an HDMI port for a gaming console.
Safety for the road ahead
You never know what the road ahead has in store. The Pilot comes well prepared with the Honda Sensing Safety Suite. Bundled inside this package are features like collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist. Nothing is more important than the safety of you and your family. It’s good to know, the Honda Pilot is on your side.
